Beatler 1.1.0 Now Available

We are pleased to announce the release of Beatler 1.1.0.  This is a free update for all registered users and can be downloaded via the in app update process.

Here is the change log for this release …

User’s also Bought Recommendations –  This feature adds a sidebar to release views which displays other releases that user’s also bought.

Artists Bios – This feature adds an extra “Info” tab to the artist details which displays bio, pics and event information pulled from Last.FM.  This view also provides a list of similar artists based on data from Last.FM.  Clicking on one of these artist links will open their details in Beatler if the artist is found in Beatport’s catalogue.

Chart Catalogue – You can now browse Beatport’s chart catalogue.

Persistent Playlist – Items in your playlist will now be persisted between restarts of Beatler.

Improved Navigation – The “Return to previous view” option in the Browser, will now correctly restore the state of what you were viewing before you switched to the Browser.

Selection follows current playing track – Beatler will now follow the current playing track when Beatler is not the active application, which means when you switch back to Beatler the current track will be highlighted.  This only works when the current view contains the track, release or chart being played.

Play next release hot key – It is now possible to assign a global hot key that will skip to the next release rather than just the next track.

Filter Search Results – You can now apply a sub filter to the list of search results.

Of Interest Highlighting – Beatler can now highlight Of Interest releases and tracks throughout the application.  The colour used to highlight the artist or label that triggered the match can be customised via the Of Interest Preferences.

Tagging Artwork for Whole Albums – Beatler can now automatically apply the chosen artwork to all tracks in the same album.

Mac OS X Services Integration – Beatler now includes two OS X Services “Open URL in Beatler” and “Search in Beatler” which will allows you to open Beatport URLs and search based on the selected text from other applications such as Mail.app or Skype.

Hide/Show Table Columns - It is now possible to hide/show table columns via the View menu.

Release Catalog Column – There is now a column that shows a release’s catalogue number.  Note:  This column is hidden by default.

Release Name Table Column in Track View – It is now possible to display the release name a track belongs to e.g. in the Top Downloads section.  Note: This column is hidden by default and can be displayed via the View->Columns menu item.

Add / Remove All Of Interest Menu Items – The Of Interest main and context menus now contains an Add/Remove All option.

Beatler Summer Solstice Sale

This year at Cancel Monday HQ we’re hanging up our Druid outfits and celebrating the Summer Solstice by offering 35% off the cost of a Beatler license.

So whether summer is just beginning for you or you are about to hit the dark depths of winter be sure to pickup your license today by visiting our store.

Free Beatler license in exchange for Browser plug-ins

We are offering a free Beatler license (or a refund) as a reward to anyone who has the ninja skills to create a plugin for Chrome, Firefox or Safari.  The plugin needs to re-write Beatport URLs to Beatler’s custom URL scheme so that the browser will open the URLs in Beatler instead of Beatport’s Flash app.

The following table shows some example mappings…

If you need a site for testing, I can recommend Beatportal as it has lots of links in random formats to keep you on your toes.

Please contact us if you are interested in getting involved and we can also provide more information on what’s needed.

What’s coming up in Beatler 1.1.0

We are hard at work on version 1.1.0 of Beatler and we just wanted to let you know what to look forward to in this release.  So lets begin…

User’s also Bought Recommendations

This feature will provide a view of release recommendations based on what other users bought in relation to the release you are browsing.

Artists Bios

Something that Beatport is lacking is decent artist biography information.  So to solve this we will be dipping into Last.FM to retrieve this information, giving you the option to find out more about a particular artist.

Chart Catalogue

It will be possible to browse Beatport’s chart catalogue, this will work much like the New Releases catalogue in Beatler.

Persistant Playlist

The items in your playlist will be persisted between restarts of Beatler.

Improved Navigation

We will be reworking the Beatport sections so that when you use the “Return to previous view” option in the Browser, it will correctly restore the state of what you were viewing before you switched to the Browser

Filter Search Results

You will have more control over search results by applying a filter to the result list.

Of Interest Highlighting

Beatler will highlight Of Interest releases and tracks throughout the application.  The artist or label that triggered the match will also be highlighted with a customisable colour.

Tagging Artwork for whole Albums

Currently when tagging album artwork you have to tag each track in an album manually.  Beatler will automatically apply the chosen artwork to all tracks in the same album.

Mac OS X Services Integration

Beatler will include two OS X Services “Open URL in Beatler” and “Search in Beatler” which will allow you to open Beatport URLs and search based on the selected text from other applications such as Mail.app or Skype.

Thats pretty much it for this release, but please drop us a line if you have a feature request that you would like to see implemented in a future release!

Beatler 1.0.1

No exciting new features here, just a small proactive maintenance release which tweaks a couple of calls to Beatport to be inline with their requirements.

This update is available now via the in-app update process.

Beatler 1.0.0

Beatler 1.0.0 is here!! We’re very excited to be introducing this new version and we hope that you’ll be impressed by the changes we have made.

Some of the highlights of this release include a revamped look and feel and an album artwork tagging feature which uses Beatport and a few other sources to help you find artwork for all that lovely obscure electronic music you buy!

Checkout the home page for a complete listing of the core Beatler features.

Now that Beatler has finally got rid of that Beta tag, you will need a license to unlock all the features. A license can be purchased through our online store.

This is only the beginning and we are already hard at work on the next version, check back soon for news on what will be included in future releases and if you have any suggestions for improvements be sure to let us know!

So what are you waiting for, go hit that update button!
